Understanding Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a specialized surgical procedure designed to enhance the symmetry and proportions of the nose. While predominantly performed for cosmetic purposes, the procedure also addresses structural misalignments resulting from traumatic incidents.

Key Areas of Nose Reshaping

Rhinoplasty focuses on several critical aspects of nasal architecture:

  • Nose size and overall proportions
  • Nasal bridge width
  • Nostril positioning
  • Correction of contour deformities
  • Addressing crooked nasal structures
  • Resolving nasal asymmetry

Surgical Techniques

Dr. Bartlett employs two primary surgical approaches for rhinoplasty: closed and open techniques. In the closed method, incisions remain hidden inside the nose, while the open approach involves a minimal external incision between the nostrils.

Surgical Process

During the procedure, the nasal skin is gently raised, allowing precise reshaping through cartilage removal or grafting. When necessary, small, controlled bone breaks (osteotomies) in the upper nasal bones enable further structural modification, ultimately enhancing the nose's surface appearance.

Horrible doctor. Went to him for septorhinoplasty in 2020. Did a very bad job. Very crooked nasal appearance. Still can't breathe that well. Uneven/Extremely assymetric appearance. Very low bridge. Nasal tip deformities. In addition to the horrible outcome, minimized the risks before hand and did not properly describe to me what the result would be like. Dr Bartlett said this is a small outpatient surgery and is done in a couple of hours. But the results lasts a super long time including waiting for swelling to go down and if the surgery is unsuccessful having to live with it. Did not use any software to show me how the nose would look after (doesn't matter since the result is awful). After the surgery, dismissed my concerns and stated that "wait 6 months to let the swelling heal" even though most of the swelling had healed and spent very little

Dr. Bartlett and his craniofacial team has taken great care of our daughter for nearly 18 years to help provide her face with more symemetry. Dr. Barlett is an expert in his field; we are so fortunate to have had him and CHOP in our lives since her birth. She's off to college next month--hard to believe after the uncertainty surrounding her birth.

Dr. Bartlett did an amazing job on my daughter's facial reconstruction (due to disfigurement from a tumor). He's such a talented surgeon. So glad we found him!
